The OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra gaming phone is now official – and so is the new gaming controller that was designed for the phone. Unlike its siblings, the Ace 6 and Ace 6T, the Ultra is powered by a MediaTek chipset – the Dimensity 9500 – which promises 165fps gaming on six popular games, including League of Legends: Wild Rift, Clash of Clans, Soul Knight and Subway Surfers.

The Dimensity 9500 chip flaunts a Mali-G1 Ultra GPU with 12 cores that promises to more than double ray tracing performance and a 33% overall improvement in performance compared to the previous generation. The octa-core CPU offers a 32% boost in single-core performance thanks to the ARM C1-Ultra core.

The phone can run Delta Force at 165fps for three hours straight with no drop in performance and an average power consumption of 4.6W.

The phone is powered by the second-largest battery in a OnePlus phone yet. It is a dual-cell design with 8,600mAh capacity and can last up to 7.4 hours of gaming at 165fps or up to 13.6 hours of navigation. The battery is rated for 5 years of use.

The phone supports bypass charging, which allows it to spare the battery and run cooler if external power is available. The battery supports 120W fast charging – 20 minutes gets it to 53% and 49 minutes gets it to 100%.

The OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra has a 6.78” OLED display (BOE) with 1,272 x 2,772px resolution. It’s a 10-bit panel with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. It can reach 3,600 nits at 25% APL and uses a combination of DC dimming (above 70 nits) and high-frequency PWM dimming (below 70 nits).

The phone can be used with the new gaming controller, but that is sold separately. The controller adds four back buttons (with 1.8ms reaction time). However, there are no joysticks or face buttons.

What it does do is add an extra antenna for a stronger signal, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-C charging port on the bottom. Additionally, it has a magnetic attachment point for a cooling fan (which is also sold separately). The controller has a retractable design, so it should support other phones too.

Moving on, the Ace 6 Ultra has a 50MP main camera on its back with a 1/1.55” sensor and an f/1.8 lens with OIS. There’s also an 8MP ultra-wide (f/2.2 16mm lens). The selfie camera has a 16MP sensor and the same 23mm focal length as the main cam on the back. The rear camera can record 4K video at up to 60fps, the selfie camera tops out at 1080p 30fps.

The phone’s frame is an aluminum alloy, while the screen is protected by tempered glass. The rear panel is either another sheet of tempered glass (for the Ace Awakening colorway) or regular glass (for the Metal Storm variant).

The phone has symmetrically-placed stereo speakers and an X-axis linear motor for haptic feedback. There’s an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the display. The USB-C port on the bottom is wired only for USB 2.0, so don’t expect video out (which seems like a missed opportunity for a gaming phone).

The phone is rated IP66 (splashes), IP68 (submersion) and IP69K (hot water jets).
