An interesting report from Korea emerged last week, claiming that BOE is actively trying to enter Samsung’s supply chain as a secondary display supplier for the Galaxy S27 series. A new report from ZDNET Korea shares more details on the matter, including BOE’s offer to Samsung and the possible implications of the deal.

Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) division has requested information from BOE regarding OLED panel development for the Galaxy S27 and has been evaluating samples for over a month. According to unnamed industry insiders, BOE is on track to meet the requirements for the Galaxy S27 OLED panels, with no major technical difficulties in BOE’s way.

More importantly, BOE has allegedly pitched its OLED panels at a price that’s $5 lower (per unit) than the ones from Samsung Display. From a financial perspective, the move would be favorable for Samsung MX, but at the same time, there are concerns that the move to BOE panels would disrupt Samsung Electronics’ OLED ecosystem, including the profitability of the display division and its component suppliers.

As a reminder, Samsung is already sourcing OLED panels for its Galaxy A57 from outside companies like TCL CSOT but the Galaxy S series has never used non-Samsung panels.
