A powerful combination of local and cloud-based security to protect users and data.

We are excited to announce advanced enterprise browser integration between Cisco Secure Access and Microsoft Edge for Business, designed to enhance data security and protect the use of AI in modern organizations.

Seamless and Secure Enterprise Browser Experience

This integration brings together Cisco’s Secure Access (SSE) platform with Edge for Business, delivering a unified solution that enables secure, zero-trust access to private applications directly through the enterprise browser. Users benefit from:

    • Robust Zero Trust Security: Enforcing granular access controls and continuous device posture assessment so authorized users and devices can access designated resources.
    • Enhanced Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Protecting sensitive data with a combination of local and cloud-based policies that prevent inappropriate file uploading, pasting, and printing from within the browser environment.
    • AI-Powered Threat Protection: Using AI-driven security insights to detect and prevent emerging threats in real time, including those related to generative AI content for remote users leveraging Cisco Secure Client and users in campus and branch office deployments.
    • Frictionless User Experience: Simplifying access with seamless, one-step login and automated trust verification, eliminating complex VPN or agent-based workflows.

Key Benefits for IT and Security Teams

The integration of Microsoft Edge for Business and Cisco Secure Access delivers data protection at the browser and network layers.

    • Simplified Management: Unified Policy Enforcement via a single, consistent set of DLP policies is enforced across private access, web browsing, and endpoint scenarios — eliminating the policy fragmentation that arises when network-layer and browser-layer controls operate independently.  This reduces operational complexity, enabling IT teams to efficiently manage security across managed and unmanaged devices.
    • GenAI Data Guardrails: Structured and unstructured data protection policies apply natively to GenAI usage within the browser, preventing sensitive data from entering public AI models or being exfiltrated through AI-assisted workflows.
    • Agentic Process Compliance: Browsing with Copilot in Edge inherits the same DLP framework applied to human users. AI agents operating in the browser cannot create loopholes — they are bound by Cisco Secure Access policies. This is a critical control gap closed.
    • MCP Security: Cisco MCP Security extends the Cisco AI Defense and Secure Access policy framework into the MCP tool-call layer, providing the enterprise with end-to-end visibility and control over what AI agents actually do, not just where they browse.
    • Comprehensive Visibility: Detailed security insights and reporting provide IT with deep visibility into browser activity and threat events.
    • Flexible BYOD and Contractor Support: Securely enable access for bring-your-own-device scenarios and third-party contractors with least-privilege access controls.
    • VDI Replacement: Modernize remote access by replacing costly and complex virtual desktop infrastructure with an integrated enterprise browser and SSE solution.

    Empowering the AI Era

As AI becomes integral to enterprise workflows, this integration ensures that AI-generated content and interactions within the browser are protected by Cisco’s advanced DLP and threat detection capabilities. This proactive approach helps safeguard sensitive information while enabling users to leverage AI tools securely.

Cisco Secure Access delivers advanced AI capabilities and significant value to customers by integrating AI-driven security, automation, and visibility within a cloud-delivered Security Service Edge (SSE) solution grounded in zero trust principles.

Additionally, Edge for Business, through its Copilot control panel in the Edge management service, provides a layered framework for enabling, constraining, and auditing agentic AI behavior within the enterprise browser.

Enhanced Data Security with Cisco DLP Integration in Edge for Business

This integration leverages Cisco Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities to enforce robust data security controls directly within Edge for Business.

Cisco Secure Access delivers a unified, AI-powered DLP solution that protects sensitive data across web traffic, cloud applications, endpoints, and email, now extended to the enterprise browser environment.

    • Unified DLP Policy Enforcement: Cisco DLP policies are centrally managed and applied consistently across data channels, including web traffic flowing through Edge for Business. This helps ensure sensitive information such as personally identifiable information (PII), financial data, and intellectual property is monitored and protected in real time.
    • Granular Control and Customization: Organizations can create flexible DLP policies targeting specific users, groups, locations, cloud apps, and destinations. Custom dictionaries and over 1,200 pre-built data identifiers enable precise detection and reduce false positives.
    • Real-Time Inspection and Enforcement: Cisco Secure Access DLP inspects data inline via the Secure Web Gateway, including SSL-encrypted traffic, to detect and block unauthorized data transfers or uploads from the browser. Policies can be configured to monitor or block actions such as pasting, printing, or sharing sensitive content.
    • AI-Powered Detection: Using AI and machine learning, Cisco DLP enhances detection accuracy by classifying unstructured data and identifying intent in generative AI interactions within the browser, safeguarding against data leakage through AI activities.
    • Comprehensive Visibility and Reporting: IT teams gain detailed insights into data loss prevention events, including identity, file names, triggered rules, and policy violations, enabling proactive risk management.

By integrating Cisco DLP policies with Edge for Business, organizations can enforce consistent data security controls within the enterprise browser to protect against data exfiltration. This improves compliance with regulatory requirements while helping to secure AI usage.

“Security works best when it’s built into the experience users already have. Integrating Cisco Secure Access with Edge for Business helps organizations reduce the cost and complexity of securing the browser, while delivering a seamless, protected experience for employees across SaaS and private apps,” said Arunesh Chandra, Head of Product, Edge for Business, Microsoft.

    Looking Ahead

Cisco and Microsoft are committed to continuous innovation in zero trust access and enterprise browsing. This integration marks a significant step toward a more secure, productive, and AI-enabled digital workplace.
