A few months ago at re:Invent, I spoke about Simplexity – how systems that start simple often become complex over time as they address customer feedback, fix bugs, and add features. At Amazon, we’ve spent decades working to abstract away engineering complexities so our builders can focus on what matters most: their unique business logic. There’s perhaps no better example of this journey than S3.Today, on Pi Day (S3’s 19th birthday), I’m sharing a post from Andy Warfield, VP and Distinguished Engineer of S3. Andy takes us through S3’s evolution from simple object store to sophisticated data solution, illustrating how…
Posted by Liz Prucka, Hamzeh Zawawy, Rishika Hooda, Android Security and Privacy Team Last year, Google’s Android Red Team partnered with Arm to conduct an in-depth security analysis of the Mali GPU, a component used in billions of Android devices worldwide. This collaboration was a significant step in proactively identifying and fixing vulnerabilities in the GPU software and firmware stack. While finding and fixing individual bugs is crucial, and progress continues on eliminating them entirely, making them unreachable by restricting attack surface is another effective and often faster way to improve security. This post details our efforts in partnership with…
SP Energy Networks has committed £490,000 to a major peatland restoration project on Scotland’s Slamannan Plateau. Working with Buglife Scotland, the initiative aims to bring over 114 hectares of rare bog habitat back to life across Falkirk and North Lanarkshire – protecting unique wildlife and helping fight climate change. Peatlands are one of Scotland’s natural powerhouses, locking away vast amounts of carbon and supporting species found exclusively within these local areas. But years of damage have left the bogs in poor condition. This project will restore five key sites by installing ditches, removing trees and creating the wetter conditions rare…
Maarten Lens-FitzGerald, December 15, 2025. Permalink: Introduction On Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Things Conference in Amsterdam, the first Project Kenner Garage session was held. This document is a report about what happened and what the outcome was. Report Summary Three teams of eight participants produced five visions for a citizen-centered mobile ecosystem built on 6G infrastructure. Team ACDC (Power) developed a full backcasting pathway from community mesh networks back through open protocols to immediate regulatory intervention on data storage choice and compensation. Team Local-AI/IY Token (Values & Services, Civics & Community) proposed location-based AI information pools and a…
Learning how to do laundry is a rite of passage for adulthood, much like learning to drive a car and filing taxes. Though much like the latter, it’s not the most thrilling chore to tack onto a busy workweek. While most of us have a basic understanding of how to use a washer and dryer, it’s likely that we’re shortening the lifespan of our favorite garments by cutting corners and/or adopting damaging habits. “While there are no universal standardized practices across Moroccan hotels, it is considered best practice to uphold strict standards,” says Brahim Agzoul, acting housekeeping manager at Kasbah Tamadot,…
After decades of steady progress, computational astrophysicists have reached a major turning point in black hole research. A new study presents the most detailed and complete model yet of luminous black hole accretion, the process by which black holes pull in surrounding matter and emit intense radiation. Using some of the most powerful supercomputers on Earth, the researchers successfully calculated how matter flows into black holes while fully accounting for both Einstein’s theory of gravity and the dominant role of radiation, without relying on simplifying shortcuts. This achievement marks the first time such calculations have been carried out in full…
The following article originally appeared on Medium and is being republished here with the author’s permission. There’s a fake confidence you can carry around when you’re learning a new technology. You watch a few videos, skim some docs, get a toy example working, and tell yourself, “Yeah, I’ve got this.” I’ve done that. It never lasts. A difficult lesson often accompanies the only experience that matters. You learn through failure—falling flat on your face, looking at the mess, and figuring out why it broke. Anything that feels too easy? It probably was, and you didn’t exit the process with anything worth learning.Ask About Failure:…
We know a huge number of iPhones made in India (about 80%) are eventually sold in the US, and we can surmise a three- to six- month gap between test manufacture and shipping product. That timelines indicates a March or April introduction of the new iPhone 18, which also suggests Apple will introduce us to the other iPhone models it plans to launch then. What iPhones will Apple introduce this spring? Previous speculation claims Apple plans to introduce two Phones this coming spring: the iPhone 18 and the new iPhone ‘e’ models. These will be followed later by iPhone Pro…

We introduce Anthology, a method for conditioning LLMs to representative, consistent, and diverse virtual personas by generating and utilizing naturalistic backstories with rich details of individual values and experience. What does it mean for large language models (LLMs) to be trained on massive text corpora, collectively produced by millions and billions of distinctive human authors? In “Language Models as Agent Models”, compelling evidence suggests that recent language models could be considered models of agents: provided with a textual context, LLMs are capable of generating conditional text that represents the characteristics of an agent likely to have produced that context. This…
