With Slow Horses season five coming to an end today, Apple TV is keen to keep the British crime drama series based off Mick Herron novels rolling. Based off the book of the same name, new TV show Down Cemetery Road debuts with a two episode premiere on Apple TV today.

The series stars Ruth Wilson and Emma Thompson, who are investigating the disappearance of a girl following an unexplained explosion inside a house. Ruth Wilson plays Sarah, a neighbor who enlists private investigator Zoe Boehm (played by Thompson) to help crack the case.

Just like Slow Horses, the show is unmistakably British with wit and humor intermingled into the dark story. Filming mostly took place in Bristol, Somerset and Oxford.

The first two episodes are available to watch right now with an Apple TV subscription. You can get a seven-day free trial for new accounts here. The rest of the eight-part season rolls out weekly, with a new episode every Wednesday through to the finale on December 10.

Down Cemetery Road is already receiving a warm critical reception, with most reviewers giving it positive recommendations in large part due to the crackling performances of the lead actresses.

The novel on which it is based actually predates the Slow Horses series of books. Future stories revolve around the adventures of investigator Boehm, so if Down Cemetery Road is a hit for Apple, you can imagine them keeping it going with new instalments of Zoe Boehm’s escapades.

Slow Horses has been a smash success for the streamer, with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. Season five just concluded today, with the final episode ending with a teaser for the (already filmed) sixth season. A seventh season is also currently in development.
