    The global market for data centre design services is on course for sustained growth as operators expand capacity and adapt facilities to new technical demands. According to a report from The Business Research Company, the sector should reach a value of $38.36 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 11.8%. According to the figures, the market is being shaped by structural change in how DCs are planned and built.

    The report estimates that revenues will rise from $21.93 billion in 2025 to $24.56 billion in 2026, a growth rate of about 12% in the near term, and follows several years of increased investment in cloud infrastructure and colocation capacity. Demand for physical space remains important, but the report says builders and operators are placing more emphasis on facility design, especially in power delivery, cooling, layout, and scalability.

    Data centre design typically covers the planning and engineering work translating requirements into operational facilities, including electrical architecture, mechanical systems, network topology, and physical configuration. The report notes that design focuses increasingly on efficiency rather than capacity build-out. Operators now expect facilities to house higher rack densities and operate under tight energy constraints.

    Continued adoption of cloud computing is cited as one of the drivers of the predicted continuing growth. As more workloads move to shared and distributed platforms, the performance and reliability of facilities become more visible to end users. The report links growth in design spending to demand for facilities that support elastic capacity and automated operations, and that offer reliable uptimes.

    According to TBRC’s paper, Eurostat figures from December 2023 show 45.2% of enterprises in the EU used cloud computing services, with adoption higher among large organisations. Here more than three quarters used cloud platforms. The report treats the figures as an indicator of demand for professionally designed capacity.

    Edge computing, artificial intelligence, and IoT are also noted as influences on location. Edge deployments increase the number of sites required thanks to the reduced tolerance for latency, while AI workloads raise power density and cooling requirements. Such pressures inevitably affect design choices early in project lifecycles and increase the value of available expertise.

    In terms of sustainability, the paper says that operators are subject to increased scrutiny over energy use, water consumption, and the overall carbon footprint of facilities. Design services are incorporating given energy efficiency targets, and are exploring alternative cooling and modular construction methods accordingly. The report treats this trend as a practical response to regulatory and commercial constraints, rather than optional enhancements demanded by outliers among buyers.

    The market remains mature (but still expanding) in North America, which the report states was the largest region for data centre design services in 2025, reflecting the concentration of hyperscalers and colocation providers. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to record the fastest growth over the forecast period, thanks to digitisation, new enterprise demand, and a growing number of greenfield projects. The report also covers Western and Eastern Europe, South East Asia, South America, the Middle East and Africa, where growth rates vary but investment activity remains.

    As facilities grow more complex and tightly coupled to digital service delivery, design decisions make operational and financial effects apparent. Projected market growth reflects a change in emphasis among the increase in construction volume.
