This post first appeared on Mike Amundsen’s Signals from Our Futures Past newsletter and is being republished here with the author’s permission. We’re long past the novelty phase of AI-assisted coding. The new challenge is measurement. How do we know whether all this augmentation—Copilot, Cursor, Goose, Gemini—is actually making us better at what matters? The team at DX offers one of the first credible attempts to answer that question. Their AI Measurement Framework focuses on three dimensions: utilization, impact, and cost. They pair these with the DX Core 4: 1) change failure rate, 2) PR throughput, 3) perceived delivery speed, and 4)…

As analytical workloads increasingly demand real-time insights, organizations need business data to enter the data lake immediately after generation. While various methods exist for real-time CDC data ingestion (such as AWS Glue and Amazon EMR Serverless), Amazon MSK Connect with Iceberg Kafka Connect provides a fully managed, streamlined approach that reduces operational complexity and enables continuous data synchronization. In this post, we demonstrate how to use Iceberg Kafka Connect with Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) Connect to accelerate real-time data ingestion into data lakes, simplifying the synchronization process from transactional databases to Apache Iceberg tables. Solution overview…

I just finished listening to the latest episode of our Find Yourself in the Future series, and I have to tell you—if you’ve ever thought that a career in data science was out of your reach or “too technical,” you’ll definitely want to watch this session. Our host, Yasmeen Seddeek, Junior Technical Advocate for Learn with Cisco, sat down with two of the brilliant minds powering data science at Cisco Networking Academy: Amy Guimond and Tashia Avery. Hearing the “how” and the “why” behind their journeys was inspiring! Here are my top takeaways from their conversation. 1. The data science…

A prolific data ransom gang that calls itself Scattered Lapsus ShinyHunters (SLSH) has a distinctive playbook when it seeks to extort payment from victim firms: Harassing, threatening and even swatting executives and their families, all while notifying journalists and regulators about the extent of the intrusion. Some victims reportedly are paying — perhaps as much to contain the stolen data as to stop the escalating personal attacks. But a top SLSH expert warns that engaging at all beyond a “We’re not paying” response only encourages further harassment, noting that the group’s fractious and unreliable history means the only winning move…

The opinions expressed here by Trellis expert contributors are their own, not those of Trellis. When I sit down with a candidate, I’m not necessarily looking for an environmentalist. I’m looking for leaders who’re comfortable handling data, communicating complexity across business functions, and helping embed sustainability as the foundation of long-term growth. To understand if candidates have those skills, I use the following questions, which are meant to reveal which candidates are the most determined to go beyond “checking the box” and instead use our mission to minimize risk and maximize competitive edge. What do you think sustainability should mean to…

6/26/18 2:20 PM · 1 min read In this quick UIKit tutorial I’ll show you how to create a simple UICollectionView without Interface Builder, but only using Swift. UICollectionViewCell programmaticallyIf you’d like to add views to your cell, you should use the init(frame:) method, and set up your view hierarchy there. Instead of awakeFromNib you should style your views in the init method as well. You can reset everything inside the usual prepareForReuse method. As you can see by using anchors sometimes it’s worth to ditch IB entirely. 🎉class Cell: UICollectionViewCell { static var identifier: String = “Cell” weak var textLabel:…

In practice, this data is embedded into prompts to form an interleaved composition of natural-language instructions and large machine-generated payloads, typically represented as JSON blobs or Python/AST literals. While large language models excel at reasoning text and code, they frequently struggle with machine-generated sequences – particularly when…

GaN high-electron-mobility-transistors (HEMTs) exhibit superior high-power and high-frequency characteristics; however, they generate a substantial amount of heat during operation. As quantum piezotronics devices, GaN HEMTs are of particular interest due to their strong coupling processes between piezoelectric, electrical and thermal fields, which are still being explored. For the first time, we built a theoretical framework combing piezotronics with the electrothermal model to reveal the thermal spatial distribution and temporal evolution. Advanced infrared thermography exhibit heat source is localized near the gate in GaN HEMT, which matches our theoretical model. The dynamic temperature characteristics indicate that the substrate layer contributes to…

The number of people who spend money buying things on the Internet is growing every year. According to Statista, retail eCommerce sales in 2025 were estimated to exceed $3.6 trillion worldwide, and this number keeps increasing. Clearly, this trend offers considerable advantages to eCommerce companies. Still, to start selling goods, it’s important to choose the right content management system (CMS). An eCommerce CMS is a solution that helps brands create and manage their online stores. Some businesses rely on an experienced eCommerce development company to create and implement their own platforms, while others choose proven market solutions. However, with the…
