It was nearly a year ago that the GSM Association published the RCS Universal Profile 3.0, which, among other things, includes an end-to-end encryption (E2EE) standard for messages. The previous E2EE implementation was a Google-specific thing, which is why Apple didn’t support it when it adopted RCS with iOS 18. Now that there is an industry standard, Apple is working to implement it – this will finally enable encrypted messaging between Android and Apple devices. Well, Apple is not pushing itself too hard – again, it’s been almost a year – but signs of support have been discovered in iOS…

Preparation of LiMPS membranesTo synthesize the MPS3 (M = Cd or Mn) crystals, the metal (Aladdin, 99%), red phosphorus (Aladdin, 99.99%) and sulfur (Aladdin, 99.5%) powders were mixed with a molar ratio of 1:1:3 and vacuum sealed in a quartz ampoule, which was then placed in a tube furnace at 700 °C for 7 days13. Every 10 g of MPS3 crystals was washed with 100 ml of ethanol (Aladdin, 99.5%, H2O ≤ 0.005%) 3 times and dried at 60 °C under vacuum for 10 h (environmental chamber, static heating). LiMPS nanosheets were synthesized through a two-step alkali-ion intercalation process13,50. For the LiCdPS, 6.5 g of CdPS3 crystals was added to…

Ethereal Exploration Guild, an Indian space tech better known as EtherealX, has climbed 5.5x in valuation to $80.5 million after its latest funding round. The startup is developing a launch vehicle designed to be fully reusable and is readying engine hot-fire tests ahead of its first technology demonstration flight, planned for 2027. The Bengaluru-based company confirms that it closed an oversubscribed $20.5 million Series A round led by TDK Ventures and BIG Capital, as TechCrunch reported earlier. Accel, Prosus, YourNest, BlueHill, Campus Fund, and Riceberg Ventures also participated, EtherealX said. The raise follows a $5 million seed round in August…

Expect this year to be filled with flux and uncertainty, thanks to lightning-fast changes wrought by AI, and by a Trump Administration that rules by whim and fiat rather than facts and law. So, I know it’s something of a fool’s game to make predictions about what the year ahead might bring for Microsoft. That said, I’ve never worried about being called a fool. So here are my five predictions for what Microsoft can expect in 2026. The AI bubble won’t burst — at least, not for Microsoft There have been plenty of worries about what people believe is an…

Traffic safety evaluation has traditionally relied on police-reported crash statistics, often considered the “gold standard” because they directly correlate with fatalities, injuries, and property damage. However, relying on historical crash data for predictive modeling presents significant challenges, because such data is inherently a “lagging” indicator. Also, crashes are statistically rare events on arterial and local roads, so it can take years to accumulate sufficient data to establish a valid safety profile for a specific road segment. This sparsity paired with inconsistent reporting standards across regions complicates the development of robust risk prediction models. Proactive safety assessment requires “leading” measures: proxies…

Powering the Future of TeamworkFor millions of users, Atlassian is where work happens. Tools like Jira and Confluence are the backbone of modern collaboration, tracking complex projects and storing critical organizational knowledge. At Databricks, we share the belief that data and AI are fundamental to the future of collaboration. The challenge has always been bridging the gap between data and daily work. Atlassian and Databricks have partnered to close that gap, bringing AI-powered, conversational analytics to anyone working with Rovo. Instead of wrangling with SQL or waiting for experts, users simply ask questions in natural language and receive real, traceable insights…

At the beginning of January, I tend to set my top resolutions for the year, a way to focus on what I want to achieve. If AI and cloud computing are on your resolution list, consider creating an AWS Free Tier account to receive up to $200 in credits and have 6 months of risk-free experimentation with AWS services. During this period, you can explore essential services across compute, storage, databases, and AI/ML, plus access to over 30 always-free services with monthly usage limits. After 6 months, you can decide whether to upgrade to a standard AWS account. Whether you’re…

Jan 14, 2026Ravie LakshmananVulnerability / Patch Management Fortinet has released updates to fix a critical security flaw impacting FortiSIEM that could allow an unauthenticated attacker to achieve code execution on susceptible instances. The operating system (OS) injection vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-64155, is rated 9.4 out of 10.0 on the CVSS scoring system. “An improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command (‘OS command injection’) vulnerability [CWE-78] in FortiSIEM may allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute unauthorized code or commands via crafted TCP requests,” the company said in a Tuesday bulletin. Fortinet said the vulnerability affects only Super and…

The membrane performed well over multiple filtration cycles, and could be cleaned and reused thanks to a methodical backwashing system. Researchers have created a new two-layer membrane filtration system that can significantly reduce the amount of micro and nanoplastics that leak from landfills into local water basins. The group – at the University of British Columbia (UBCO) – has published the study which details how a double-layer membrane installed at landfills can act as a filter to keep these pollutants out of groundwater and surrounding ecosystems. “Landfills are silent threats to our environment, acting as major reservoirs for emerging pollutants,”…
