Murata ID Solutions unveils its newly inaugurated “RFID Experience & Innovation Hub” in Parma, Italy, an advanced laboratory dedicated to IoT (Internet of Things) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. This cutting-edge environment, housing dedicated spaces for information, dissemination, demonstrations, testing, workshops and vital research activities, enhances Murata’s pioneering role and industry-shaping initiatives in the RFID space.

Equipped with RFID technology and real-world application scenarios, the establishment of the new hub enhances the value proposition for Murata’s customers and partners, providing them with a premium environment for co-innovation, product validation, performance testing and advanced technical training on the latest IoT and RFID solutions.

The “RFID Experience & Innovation Hub” will function as a vital center for experimentation, applications and research, enhancing Murata’s ability to drive the development of advanced RFID technology and solutions.

With dedicated spaces for education and advancing research activities, the hub will strengthen Murata’s research capabilities as well as collaboration with the University of Parma. As an alliance partner of the RFID lab at the University of Parma, Murata intends to make the hub fully available to the University’s academic community.

University students and researchers will have the possibility to conduct impactful research on next-generation RFID solutions while simultaneously engaging in practical, hands-on learning and didactic activities. Furthermore, the hub will facilitate technology transfer by actively bridging the gap between academic discoveries and industrial implementation.

“This innovative and interactive space is a testament not only to the scientific and educational collaboration with the University of Parma but also to our commitment to supporting and stimulating innovation together with the industry, our customers and partners”, said Francesco Fantoni Guerci, the CEO of Murata ID Solutions. “Our goal is to contribute to the advancement of technology. This new facility, where innovation can flourish, helps us honour that commitment. We look forward to welcoming all stakeholders to experience the Hub and collectively build the future of IoT and RFID.”

The new centre is designed as a highly interactive environment that fosters both collaboration and discovery. Visitors can explore detailed RFID demonstrations tailored to several key sectors, including fashion and apparel, automotive, logistics and healthcare, with practical showcases of various business use cases (traceability, brand protection, industry 4.0, asset management etc.). Beyond the demo areas, the facility is equipped with several dedicated testing areas and numerous informal open meeting spaces designed to facilitate spontaneous interaction and inspiration.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, December 15th. It was attended by the Rector of the University of Parma, together with university representatives, as well as executives and technical experts from Murata ID Solutions.

On the occasion, Rector Paolo Martelli stressed the importance of the new facility for future research and education: “The fact that Murata intends to make the Hub available to our academic community is great news, as it is an advanced facility that can be very important for students and researchers in the sector. It represents a significant opportunity for them to experiment and conduct research, helping to define future IoT and RFID solutions. Alongside this, I am pleased to highlight the role that the University of Parma played in the initial, originating phase of this journey: significant entities are born from university research and then walk on their own two feet, starting successful entrepreneurial paths. This is a concrete testament to the practical application of knowledge developed in academia with a strong focus on technological transfer.”
