    Vodafone Idea Gives Clarity on AGR Dues Relief from Government

    Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), the third-largest telecom operator in the country, has just updated the stock exchanges about the rumour of getting a moratorium of five years on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. The telco said in the clarification that it has not received any such communication from the government.

    The development of moratorium grant was first reported by Reuters. The telco owes about Rs 87,695 crores in AGR dues to the central government. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had earlier said that it won’t recalculate the dues. This doesn’t mean the government is not open to offering moratorium.

    The AGR dues for Vi are payable starting the end of the current financial year (FY26). The telco has previously communicated to the government that it is in no position to be able to pay the dues and carry on with the business. There’s just not enough cash flow for Vi to be able to do that. The government can either recalculate the dues and reduce the amount, or just push the dues ahead.
