How we handle your details.
GEEK FENCE asks for a few details when you join the movement. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how you stay in control.

In short
- We collect only what the Join form asks for.
- We use it to reply to you, point you to chapters and meetups, and tell you about the movement.
- We store it on our own server. We never sell it.
- You can ask us to correct or delete it at any time: editor@geekfence.com.
01.Who we are
The controller of your details is Geekfence FZE, trading as GEEK FENCE (“GEEK FENCE”, “we”, “us”).

02.What we collect
Everything below comes from you, from the Join the movement form, except the technical data in the last row.
- Name, email, city and country, role
- What you type into the form. We need these to reply and to place you with the right chapter.
- What you are building, and an optional website or LinkedIn link
- So we understand how we can help and who to connect you with.
- What you want to do, and which pillars interest you
- So we tell you about the right meetups, chapters and communities.
- Your consent
- The exact wording you agreed to, and the time you agreed.
- Technical data
- A one-way, salted hash of your IP address, used only to stop spam and abuse, and a count of how many times you have submitted the form. We cannot turn the hash back into your IP address.
We do not ask for sensitive information such as health, religion or political views. Please do not put any in the free-text answer.
03.Why we use it
We use your details to:
- reply to you;
- connect you with your nearest chapter, meetup or community pillar, or help you start a chapter; and
- tell you about GEEK FENCE events, programmes and news.
Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the Join form.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing editor@geekfence.com. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did before. We use the IP hash under our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe from abuse.
05.How long we keep it
We keep your details until you ask us to delete them. When you ask, we delete them, including emails about your sign-up, within 30 days.
06.Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your details;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your details;
- restrict how we use them, or stop using them;
- give them to you in a portable format; and
- stop contacting you, by withdrawing your consent.
Email editor@geekfence.com to use any of these. We may need to confirm it is you.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
08.Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your details. The site is served over HTTPS, the database is not publicly reachable, admin access is password-protected and limited, and every sign-up is checked before it is stored.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
09.International transfers
This site is hosted by Hostinger on servers in the United Kingdom. The details you submit are sent to and stored there, and our team may access them from outside the United Kingdom. Our email provider may process the emails in other countries.
10.Children
GEEK FENCE is for people aged 16 and over. Please do not use the Join form if you are younger. If we find we hold a child’s details, we will delete them.
11.Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters, we will tell the people on our list.
